What Happens Behind the Camera

When people see the final photographs — the smiles, the light, the emotions — they often don’t realize how much happens before that moment. Every session begins long before I pick up my camera. I thought it would be nice to share what really happens behind the scenes — from the very first message to the final gallery you receive.

The First Connection

It all starts when someone reaches out through my website or social media. As soon as I receive an inquiry, I respond right away and send out a client form. This form is one of my favorite tools. It helps me understand what my potential client is looking for — what kind of session they’re interested in, what they expect, and whether they’ve had photography experience before. There’s even a section where you can attach sample photos you love — maybe something you found on Pinterest or from a family member’s session. I always enjoy looking at these references; they give me a sense of your taste, preferred colors, and editing style.

Pre-Session Consultation

Once we go over the form, we schedule a short consultation — usually a 20–30 minute video call, or sometimes an in-person meeting if we live nearby, or simply exchange all the information over email for clients who prefer a quicker and more flexible option. This conversation is one of the most important parts of the process. It’s where we discuss everything: the location, outfits, mood, lighting, and even the smallest details that can make your session unique.

If the session involves children, we talk about ways to make them feel comfortable and happy. For kids’ portraits, I always try to create something personal — sometimes with small props or items that mean something to the family. These details help bring out each child’s personality and make their portraits truly special.

”Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together”.

Before the Session

I always stay in touch leading up to the session. If you have any questions, ideas, or even doubts, you can message or call me anytime. I reply as soon as I can, because I know how important it is to feel confident and excited before your shoot.

I also help with outfit coordination and choosing the right location. I usually send a list of my favorite spots with short notes about their pros and cons — so we can choose a setting that fits your vision perfectly.

Session Day

When the day arrives, everything we’ve discussed comes together. My goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere where you can be yourself — no forced poses, no stress. I focus on capturing connection, natural movement, and genuine emotion.

At the same time, I always make sure to create a few timeless portraits — the kind that grandparents love — where everyone looks at the camera and smiles. Those “Grandma photos,” as I like to call them, are classic and meaningful, and they always become treasured family keepsakes.

The magic is in the details, and the details happen behind the scenes

After the Session

Once the session is complete, I begin the editing process. I edit every photograph by hand, paying attention to tone, light, and detail. This part of my work takes time — many hours — but it’s where your images truly come to life.

Within about two weeks, you receive a beautifully curated online gallery with your finished photographs. The gallery stays active for two months, giving you plenty of time to view, share, and download your favorites.
